PCOS(Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) or PCOD(Polycystic Ovary Disease) is a hormonal disorder that affects the women menstrual cycle. This is a condition where ovaries may develop multiple cysts or follicles and fail to release eggs regularly. The exact cause of PCOS is not yet known. Early diagnosis and treatment decrease the risk of further complications such as type-2 diabetics, high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, insulin resistance, and heart disease.
PCOS is said to affect 1 out of 10 women. PCOS can cause irregular periods or missed periods. Irregular periods cause infertility(inability to get pregnant). Many women don’t know that they have been affected by PCOS. The ovaries produce little amounts of androgen(male hormones).
